How this website, its speed test, and HomeLab Backup handle information.

Last updated: November 2, 2026

This website

This personal website is operated by Ryan Alan Jacobs. It links to separately protected Plex and Tautulli services and hosts a connection speed test. It does not offer public user accounts, collect newsletter sign-ups, or accept backup uploads.

The website does not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics. Its pages, fonts, images, and speed-test assets are served locally. The recovered speed-test package contains an old analytics loader, which is blocked by the website’s security policy.

Hosting and network providers process connection information such as IP addresses, request paths, timestamps, and browser details to deliver and protect the site. Any enabled platform access logs may contain that information. The application does not log speed-test payload contents or save individual test results.

The speed test

A test starts only after you choose to run it. Your browser downloads synthetic data from this website’s server and uploads synthetic data back. Upload data is read and discarded; it is not saved to disk. The results describe the connection between your browser and the server hosting this site.

The browser displays download speed, upload speed, ping, and jitter. Results are not sent to a separate results service. The embedded engine does not write results to browser local storage, and the website does not keep a test-history database.

A short-lived, essential cookie keeps the test’s requests in the same session. It expires after three minutes. The wrapper also requests that the session and cookie be cleared when a test completes or is cancelled; if that request cannot reach the server, the normal expiration still applies. It is not an advertising identifier. Temporary, in-memory request and data counters help limit simultaneous tests and excessive traffic.

OpenSpeedTest is credited on the credits page. Opening an external credit, Plex, or Stats link takes you to that service, whose own privacy practices apply.

HomeLab Backup and Google Drive

HomeLab Backup is a separate private utility used by the owner. It uploads encrypted backup archives to the owner’s Google Drive and reads uploaded files back for integrity verification.

Its Google authorization requests https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file. That permission allows access to app-created files and files explicitly made available to the app, not general access to every Drive file.

The utility processes encrypted archive data, file and folder identifiers, ownership and permission metadata, file sizes, integrity information, storage quota information, and the OAuth tokens needed for authorized access. Authorization tokens are kept on the owner’s backup system with restricted file permissions; this public website does not receive them.

Backup contents may include personal configuration, application data, and credentials inside encryption. The separate outer decryption/recovery key is not uploaded with the archive. Encrypted backup data is not used for advertising, sold, or submitted to an AI training service by this utility.

Retention, revocation, and deletion

The owner controls the backup files in Google Drive and may delete them there. Cloud archives remain until removed by the owner or by a separately configured retention process; no fixed cloud retention or automatic deletion is promised by this policy.

Access can be revoked through Google account connections. Revocation stops future authorized access. It does not remove existing backup files, local backup copies, or files already downloaded by the owner.

Website test sessions expire after three minutes. Temporary traffic-limit counters are held in application memory for up to a day. Hosting-provider log retention depends on the deployment’s logging settings.
